About Block & Loom
Block & Loom started with a question I kept getting asked.
I'm Will. I've been travelling to India for more than ten years, visiting artisan printers, sourcing handcrafted fabrics, getting to know the people and places behind the cloth. For a long time the fabrics I sourced were for my own use. People in my shop kept asking where they could buy them to sew with themselves.
So i created Block and Loom.
The fabrics come directly from wthe printing tables in Sanganer and Bagru in Rajasthan, two of the great centres of Indian block printing, where the tradition goes back centuries. I visit the printers in person and have done for years. I know where the cloth comes from and how it's made, and I think that matters.
The pricing is straightforward. No inflated RRP, no fake sale theatre, just a fair everyday price. The fabrics are the real thing, hand-carved wooden blocks, traditional techniques, cotton that gets better with washing. The small variations you'll notice in the print are part of what makes it authentic.
I'm based in Totnes, South Devon, and I pack every order myself. If you ever want to know more about a particular fabric or technique, just get in touch.
