Burgundy Leaf & Lotus Block Print Cotton

Large botanical leaves in warm khaki and cream scatter across a deep burgundy ground, punctuated by soft pink lotus flowers. Bold in scale and rich in colour — the burgundy ground gives it a depth that photographs don't fully capture. One of the more dramatic prints in the range and particularly good for autumn and winter making.

Hand block printed in Sanganer, Rajasthan using a technique with roots going back over 400 years. Sanganeri printing is recognised by its fine, detailed floral and botanical motifs — butis (small scattered motifs), butas (larger individual motifs), jaal (all-over floral nets), and bel (trailing vine borders) — applied to a light or white base cloth. Each colour is printed separately using hand-carved wooden blocks. The result is a delicate, intricate print that carries the subtle marks of its maker. Minor variations in print alignment and colour are part of the hand-made process. This is a genuine Sanganeri block print cotton fabric, sold by the metre from the UK.

Machine wash at 30°. Some colour release on first wash is normal — it settles. Pre-wash before sewing if you prefer.
